How to Prevent Tick Bites

One key remedy to tick exposure is to avoid tick habitats. This would include wooded areas, brush, tall grasses, grassy fields, stone-faced walls and shaded areas where sanitation habits are poor (leaf litter and ground clutter).

If you are going to venture into known tick habitats, it is recommended to wear specific clothing to increase your level of protection. This includes:

  • Hat with visor
  • Long-sleeved shirt
  • Long pants making sure pants are tucked into socks
  • Wear bright or light colors – ticks do not like light colored clothing
  • Proper personal use of insect repellents – paying close attention to label directions

Once your outdoor activity is finished, and prior to coming indoors, check your clothing (or have someone else check it for you), brush off your clothing and inspect your shoes and socks. Furthermore, check for ticks on a daily basis. You should especially check areas of the body ticks like including the hairline, underarms, groin and area behind knees.

If you have had problems with ticks on your family and pets in your property in the past, Natural Alternative's Organic Mosquito, Tick & Flea Control hose-end sprayer can help drastically reduce the amount mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas in your property. It is made of 100% organic materials that are safe for your family, pets, bees, earthworms, and butterflies, but repel mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas effectively. The hose-end sprayer easily attaches to most hoses and one bottle covers 10,000 square feet.

If your property is larger than 10,000 square feet, we recommend using Tick Killz. Tick Killz is a concentrate that is mixed with water into a handheld or backpack sprayer that can cover up to 7.5 acres to help control mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas for up to three weeks. Because these products are organic, you can spray and play the same day.
